Psalm 23
A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Colton Piano & Vern Schafer
The man and the company that shaped five decades of my life in music
Vernon “Vern” Schafer — NAMM Oral History, 2004
Vernon “Vern” Schafer
Vernon Schafer (December 8, 1929 – December 8, 2014) was one of the most remarkable figures in the American music retail industry. Born with an entrepreneurial spirit and a deep love for the piano, he began his career in the family piano-moving business as a teenager.
In 1955, Vern founded Colton Piano & Organ Co. in Colton, California. What started as a single storefront grew into one of the most prolific regional music retail operations in the United States, with flagship showrooms stretching across Southern California.
In 1981, I walked through the doors of Colton Piano as a young man eager to make his mark. I had no idea that decision would change the entire trajectory of my life. What I found inside those showroom walls was not just a job — it was a masterclass in excellence, discipline, and the art of connecting people with music.

A great educator doesn't just teach a subject—they change the trajectory of our careers, our families, and our lives.Years ago, a friend told me that growing up in Iran, there is an understanding: if a teacher teaches you anything, you owe them your life. That reverence for learning, shared across cultures and traditions worldwide, reminds us how vital education truly is. Immigrants and diverse cultural perspectives constantly enrich our communities here in America, showing us the enduring value of respecting our educators and honoring our elders. As a psychologist, musician, and educator, I share insights that nurture personal growth, creativity, and lifelong learning. Every person we connect with gives us a chance to make a lasting, positive difference.I'm glad you're here—let's grow together.— Dr. Arthur George Scott Psychologist/Musician Thank you, friends.
